Bootcamping: Interview with Jay Hardway – TURN UP THE BASS

Jay Hardway is a talented Dutch producer who has been making serious waves in the dance scene in a very short time.  His collaborations with buddy Martin Garrix such as “Wizard” received world wide support from some of the biggest names in the DJ world.  Jay’s debut solo track “Bootcamp” was premiered by Martin Garrix at Ultra Music Festival Miami and is currently heating up the Beatport charts.  Check out our interview where we chatted to Jay about upcoming tracks, musical inspirations, and more!

Everyone knows about “Wizard” but you and Martin Garrix have been making tracks before that like “Error 404.”

Yeah we made a lot of tracks together and we both got signed to Universal Publishing at the same time.  Then he got to Spinnin’ and then “Animals” happened.  I’m glad he’s so normal and still down to earth and we’re still making music.  “Wizard” Spinnin’ heard the melody and were like we need it. That was the first release after “Animals.”

Who were you biggest musical inspirations?

Tiesto for DJing because he’s just always been there when I was growing up.   For producers Laidback Luke, Afrojack, and Vato Gonzalez.  Vato Gonzalez was the first big DJ in Holland who played my tracks.   Those guys really pushed the limits of producing by trying new things.  They have a very unique style as producers.

Who do you think will be the next one to blow-up in the dance scene?

Oliver Heldens got really big this year and he’s a great guy as well.

If you were a superhero what would your superpower be?

Flying or teleportation.  I would really like to fly, I think that would be awesome.

Your three must have suitcase tour items?

Headphones, clothes, laptop.

Who is your dream collab?

Calvin Harris.  He’s huge but seems really normal in interviews.

What’s coming up next for you?

My solo track “Boot Camp.”  I’m also working with Thomas Newson on a track and one with Joey Dale from Revealed.
