Top 5 EDM Artists from Italy – TURN UP THE BASS

A lot of great things come from Italy such as fine food, strong coffee, beautiful scenery, museums, and impeccable style.  It should come as no surprise that the land that brought us la dolce vita also brewed a lot of talented artists.  Here we bring you TURN UP THE BASS’s picks for the top 5 EDM artists from Italy!

5. Congorock, Lecce

Congorock’s heavy-hitting drops on tracks such as “Ivory” and “Babylon” first put him on the EDM map in 2011.  He scored a tour with R&B queen Rihanna and made an official remix for her hit single “Diamonds.” Congorock was also enlisted by Swedish House Mafia to remix their smash “One” and went on to work with dance-hall star Sean Paul on “Bless Di Nation.”

4. Daddy’s Groove, Naples

Daddy’s Groove made a name for themselves when they began collaborating with David Guetta in 2011.  They’ve had releases on major labels such as Axtone, Jack Back, Defected, Spinnin’, Doorn Records, and Ultra Records.  In addition to their original productions “Stellar” and “Surrender,” they’ve also worked on Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and David Guetta’s albums. Their latest is the monster tune “Synthemilk” with fellow countryman Congorock.

3. Riva Starr, Naples

Stefano Miele, better known is Riva Starr, has been making records under different aliases for over fifteen years.  He first hit the big-time in 2010 with the release of ‘If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade’ that featured the Balkan-flavored “I Was Drunk (feat. Noze).”  The track was a huge hit and spurred a Balkan trend in EDM.  Most recently it was the collab with Fatboy Slim “Eat Sleep Rave Repeat” that became the party anthem/mantra of 2013.

People keep on asking why i don’t play cheesy EDM after the success of EatSleepRaveRepeat and get big $. NO THANX i stick to house music 😉

2. Crookers, Omegna

Crookers were originally a genre-defying duo made up of members Phra & Bot.  Bot played guitar from an early age and later moved onto synths, turntables, and sequencers while Phra was a street-smart kid who loved hip-hop.  Their break came in 2009 when they linked up with American rapper Kid Cudi on the hit “Day N Nite.”  They signed to Interscope the following year and released the album ‘Tons of Friends’ featuring commercial artists such as Kelis, Pitbull, and will.i.am.  Bot left in 2012 to pursue a solo career and Phra continues on using the Crookers name.

1. Benny Benassi & Alle Benassi, Milan

DJ Benny Benassi and his classical-trained producer cousin Alle Benassi first formed their musical partnership over 15 years ago. In 2003 they reached the big leagues with the breakthrough single “Satisfaction,” which peaked at #2 in the UK Singles Chart.  Alle Benassi also co-wrote and co-produced several hits for Chris Brown such as “Beautiful People” and “Don’t Wake Me Up.”  In 2011 Alle Benassi won a Grammy for his work on Chris Brown’s album ‘FAME,’ which won for Best R&B Album.  Benny Benassi is currently ranked at #89 on DJ Mag’s top 100 list.
