Top 5 MCs in EDM – TURN UP THE BASS

In the late 70’s the term Master of Ceremonies (MC) became another alternative for a rapper and became synonymous with hip hop music and culture.  MCs eventually made their way into the Dutch EDM scene and can now been seen all over the world especially on outdoor festival stages.  Being a successful MC is an art in itself.  You gotta have impeccable timing skills, charisma, bundles of energy, and the natural ability to keep the party rolling. Here we bring you the top five in the game.

5. Zawdi MC

During a holiday in 2001 Zawdi was discovered by Chuckie and Posh-E, who strongly encouraged him to pursue MCing as a career.  Zawdi is now rolling primarily with Afrojack & the Jacked crew.  His vocal talents have supported the sets of Tiësto, Martin Garrix, Chuckie, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Quintino, Sidney Samson, Laidback Luke, and many more.

4. Mitch Crown

A jack of all trades Mitch Crown is not just an MC but also a singer/songwriter, producer, DJ, and pianist.  As an MC he has performed alongside Fedde Le Grand, Funkerman, R3hab, and many more.  His vocals can be heard on the chart-toppers “Call Me A Spaceman” by Hardwell and “Heaven” by Quintino. Mitch Crown has also worked with Dutch house pioneer Fedde Le Grand on numerous tracks such as “Let Me Be Real,” “Rockin’ High,” and “Running (feat Sultan + Shepard).”

3. MC Ambush

American MC Ambush got his start MCing alongside Chuckie back in the day. They met in Europe after Ambush completed a 4 year Army stint in Holland. Ambush can be heard on popular EDM tracks such as “Move It 2 The Drum” by Chuckie & Hardwell, “Atun Con Pan” by Albert Neve & DJ Obek, “Booster” by Angger Dimas, “Surrender” by Sidney Samson, and many more. In 2013 Ambush joined Spanish group Zombie Kids as their official MC performing all over the world with them from Ultra Miami to Ibiza to South America.

2. Mc Gee

UK-bred MC Gee got his big break when he was featured on Fedde Le Grand’s breakout single of 2006 “Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit.”  MC Gee has been Fedde Le Grand’s official tour MC for a number of years.  If you have been to any of their shows there is no denying the chemistry between the two.  He is also the official voice of Sensation and has performed alongside heavyweights Nicky Romero, Mark Knight, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, and many more.

1. Like Mike

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are a brotherly duo that need little introduction. Their unique and interactive live shows earned DJ Dimitri Vegas and MC Like Mike the well-deserved title of Kings of TomorrowLand and landed them at #6 on the DJ Mag Top 100 list of 2013. Like Mike started off as a hip hop MC & DJ but fell in love with house music after going to Erick Morillo’s Subliminal Sessions party in Ibiza as a teenager.  In addition to their live performances both brothers produce which saw them close out 2013 with an astonishing six Beatport #1 singles.
