10 Things You Didn't Know About Martin Garrix – TURN UP THE BASS

Martin Garrix was hands down the EDM breakout star of 2013.  His anthem “Animals” was a Beatport #1 for four consecutive weeks and made Martin Garrix the youngest artist ever to reach that position on his own. As the first signing to the EDM division of Justin Bieber’s management company Scooter Braun and a slew of collabs with artists such as Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Dillon Francis, & Firebeatz, the future is certainly looking bright for the young gun. Read on to get to know Martin Garrix a lot better!

He got his start DJing at weddings for his parents’ friends when he was ten years old.

Martin’s passion for music started at the age of four when he was learning to play the guitar.

His first high-profile production was his remix of “Your Body” by pop star Christina Aguilera. Christina liked Martin’s remix so much she decided to put it on the deluxe edition of her album ‘Lotus.’

Outside of EDM Martin likes to listen to Coldplay and Kendrick Lamar.

Julian Jordan & Martin Garrix first met online in producer’s forums in 2011. They both got signed to Spinnin’ Records around the same time in 2012. They collaborated on the banger “BFAM” and have another collab forthcoming.

Martin Garrix currently attends Herman Brood Academie, a special music producer’s school in Holland.  Julian Jordan used to be in the same class as Martin.

“Animals” was inspired by a track by hip-hop artist Busta Rhymes.

Martin’s first exposure to EDM was in 2004 when he was eight years old and saw Tiësto performing at the Olympics.  After that he started saving up money to buy DJ equipment.  Three years later he had enough money to buy a pair of CDJs.

Vato Gonzalez was the first well-known DJ in Holland to play Martin’s tracks. It was from that point he started getting in contact with other producers and labels.

Martin started producing hardstyle long before house music. He’s been producing house music since 2010.
