A sick beat is simply that, a sick beat, but add in an unforgettable vocal that stops you dead in your tracks and you got yourself solid EDM gold!! There are so many amazingly talented singer/songwriters in dance music but few that rise to the top for that extra incredible punch. Here we bring you the crème de la crème!
7. Amba Shepherd – Aussie songstress Amba Shepherd has been in high demand since “Apollo,” the #1 collab with Hardwell, came out last year. In addition to Hardwell, Amba has worked with notable names such as Ferry Corsten, Porter Robinson, Starkillers, and Dyro. Her latest release heating up the charts is a collab with Dutch trio Shermanology on the track “Who We Are.”
6. Example – Elliot Gleave, better known as his stage name Example is a remarkably gifted British singer and rapper. His big break came in 2011 with the track “Changed the Way You Kiss Me,” which debuted at #1 in the UK. He then collaborated with Laidback Luke on the dance-floor stomper “Natural Disaster.” Earlier this year he released his 4th Studio album “The Evolution of Man.” “Perfect Replacement” was the single of that album and was remixed by Hard Rock Sofa, R3hab, and Datsik. The track was a major hit, cracking the Top 10 of the UK Dance Charts.
5. Wynter Gordon – Wynter Gordon is a Jamaican born American singer/songwriter who got her start as a writer for R&B queen Mary J Blige. Wynter Gordon made the cross-over to EDM when she sang and co-wrote the track “Toyfriend” with David Guetta. Her track “Dirty Talk” topped Billboard’s “Dance Club Play Songs” chart at #1. Wynter Gordon also worked with Clockwork on the track Surge and her collab with Steve Aoki “Ladi Dadi” took over dance-floors worldwide.
4. Jahan & Yasmine Yousaf (Krewella) – It’s safe to say you couldn’t go anywhere this year without hearing these girls’ voices! Hardwell’s remix of Krewella’s “Alive” was a favorite of almost every DJ all summer long. “Alive” has sold over 700,000 copies to date! Krewella’s collab with Nicky Romero, “Legacy” became a progressive house anthem quickly rising to the top of the charts. Krewella’s new album “Get Wet” debuted in the Billboard Top 10, proving that Krewella are the hottest EDM act in America right now!
3. Matthew Koma – Singer/Songwriter Matthew Koma is the voice behind a lot of famous EDM tracks! The first time he actually collaborated with EDM artists was the chart topper “Calling” by Swedes Alesso and Sebastien Ingrosso. He worked again with Alesso on the uplifting bomb “Years,” a track he performed live during Alesso’s set at Coachella in 2012. Matthew Koma also co-wrote and is featured on “Sparks” by Nicky Romero and Fedde Le Grand. He’s worked with Zedd on the #1 singles “Spectrum,” which he wrote and sang on and “Clarity” which he co-wrote. His latest endeavor is with Hardwell on the track “I Dare You,” which no doubt will follow in the same footsteps of Matthew Koma and Hardwell’s previous successes.
2. Taylr Renee – Taylr Renee is an angelic American signer/songwriter you know from the #1 Beatport smash “I AM,” a collab between legendary Swedish producer Axwell and hot Dutch duo Sick Individuals. She has also worked with Quintino and Moti on the track “Dynamite.” Her latest is “Howl at the Moon,” a track Taylr Renee made with up and coming Hungarian duo Stadiumx. “Howl at the Moon” was one of the most talked about tracks at ADE. Warning Taylr Renee’s mesmerizing vocals are addictive!!
1. Bright Lights – Heather Bright, better known as her stage name Bright Lights, might of got her start writing songs for Britney Spears, but is responsible for some of EDM’s biggest records including “Language” with Porter Robinson, “Stars Come Out” with Zedd, “Don’t Blame The Party” with Bingo Players, “We are the Sun” with Savoy, and “Ghost” with Pink is Punk & Benny Benassi. This year at UMF Miami she joined Hardwell on stage to perform the track “Never Say Goodbye,” which she made with Hardwell and Dyro. That track become one of the most eagerly anticipated releases coming out of the entire Miami Music Week!
