7. Miley Cyrus gives Chuckie the finger, gets kicked out of VIP

On Halloween, Miley Cyrus was partying at L.A.’s Create club while Chuckie was destroying the place with his Dirty Dutch beats.  After Chuckie made a joke that “somewhere in America, Miley Cyrus is still twerking..,” Miley Cyrus wasn’t amused and decided to flip Chuckie the finger.  His friends responded and kicked her out of their VIP booth.

6. Final day of Electric Zoo New York canceled

The third and final day of the music festival was canceled after two people died and at least four others were hospitalized due to MDMA (“molly”). Electric Zoo was the first major festival of the three-year-old EDM boom to be canceled due to drug concerns.  The cancellation announcement wasn’t made until the morning of the final day, after many attendees were already in route to the venue.  Scheduled to appear that day were Fedde Le Grand, Armin van Buuren, Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Diplo, Krewella, Swanky Tunes, Zedd, W&W, and many more.

5. Eminem responds to Afrojack talking sh*t about him: Who?

Eminem received the global icon award at the European MTV Awards. After receiving the award, host Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) asked Eminem if he had anything to say about Afrojack talking sh*t about him.  Eminem responded with a simple, “Who?” and Burgundy said Afrojack’s name again, to which Eminem responded with another “Who?”  A “Who?” that was heard all around the world.   After that, Afrojack’s Facebook page blew up with “Who?” comments from Eminem fans.

4. Deadmau5 & Kat Von D reveal break-up details on social media

Deadmau5 & Kat Von D were engaged via twitter last year.  Their engagement lasted 6 months.  The breakup was made public when Kat Von D tweeted, “Man, I’m a fool…Cheating on your loved one is the most hurtful thing one could do.  I hate to have to admit, that this relationship is indeed over.” Deadmaus responded on his Facebook page, “Kat and I split in November and I moved back home to Toronto.  During this time, while we were broken up, I did have relations with another woman.  Following that, Kat and I reconciled and I acknowledged being intimate with another person while we were estranged……At the end of June, it was clear that the relationship was not working and we mutually ended the engagement.  I was not, at any point, unfaithful to Kat during our time together.”

3. Justin Bieber vs Michael Woods

While Michael Woods was DJing in Seoul, South Korea Justin Bieber gate crashed the DJ booth demanding hip hop be played.  When Michael Woods refused, Justin Bieber sucker-punched his manager.  Later in the night, Justin Bieber got what he wanted and appeared in the booth once again as the next DJ played hip hop.  The fiasco created a war on social media between EDM fans and Beliebers.

2. will.i.am rips off Arty & Mat Zo

In “Let’s Go,” will.i.am sampled Arty & Mat Zo’s track “Rebound” without their permission.  He initially denied committing plagiarism since he credited Arty in the liner notes for his album ‘#WillPower.’  He told the Associated Press, “You can’t steal if you credited somebody.  He and I communicated. … It’s not my fault he didn’t tell me about the other guy.  So who is to blame?  I didn’t know.”  Anjunabeats, Arty & Mat Zo’s label that released “Rebound,” didn’t agree releasing this statement:  Although Arty (but not Mat Zo) was credited in the sleeve notes, this is not the same as obtaining permission.  To present someone else’s work as your own, you need to seek permission, agree terms and file paperwork, which has not happened in this case.  Shortly after that statement was released will.i.am admitted to Kiss-FM, “Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to ‘Rebound’ this last year……I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him, did a different version to it because I asked him (to) make it newer, because I don’t just want to take your song and rap over it.  But in a year’s time, time’s gone by (and) we preferred writing over and using the (original) ‘Rebound.’  Something happened and the clearance. . . hopefully, we resolved the issue.”

1. Paris Hilton lands a residency at Amnesia Ibiza

Some people called it the EDM apocalypse when it was announced that Paris Hilton would be headlining her own night at Amnesia Ibiza.  Amnesia only hosts the world’s top DJs so with minimal prior DJ experience it was pretty ridiculous Paris Hilton landed such an exclusive and highly-coveted first time gig.  Even though Amnesia’s Facebook page was bombarded with negative comments from disgruntled ravers calling for an Amnesia boycott, the hotel heiress’s residency was a huge success.  So successful that her residency was renewed for the 2014 season.
