Nicky Romero is one the most talented and well-respected producers in the international EDM scene. After catching the eye of Fedde Le Grand, who gave Nicky his first big break, he catapulted into the dance scene with his overwhelming passion and dedication.
Having already worked with superstars David Guetta, Avicii, Calvin Harris, Krewella, Nervo, and Nile Rodgers, there’s no telling what the future holds for the musical prodigy.

Hi Nicky. It’s good to talk to you again, we actually first met ages ago in Amsterdam and you’ve come such a long way in just a few years! I’m really happy for you for all your success!

You kind of exploded onto the EDM scene out of nowhere but you’ve actually been making music most of your life right?
That is correct, I have always been involved with music one way or another! I used to be in a drum band as a little kid, music has always been my passion so I was always close to some form of expression in that way.
You’ve had a memorable year this year from playing one of the most talked about sets at UMF Miami to having your own residency at Vegas’s Cirque du Soleil inspired super- club the Light. What have been the highlights for you that really stuck out? What’s been the craziest thing that’s happened to you this year?
You know that is one of the most frequently asked questions I get in interviews 
At the risk of being overly diplomatic I have to say my life as a whole is a blessing and it is a very big highlight, if I have to choose I’d say Tomorrowland and Coachella left an impression that really lasts!
Awesome! What’s been the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you at a gig?
When my Tour Manager was helping out another artist by trying to make room for his set up and accidentally pressed the off switch on the mixer and all the sound died! We laugh at it now but at the time it was not funny to me, the Nervo girls took the mic and embarrassed him in front of the crowd and that was funny.
This year you’ve collaborated with a lot of high profile artists such as Nervo, Krewella, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, are there any future collaborations with other artists you can tell us about?
Yes there are and many but I am not yet at liberty to say sorry.
I heard you’re working on a track with Rihanna. What can you tell us about that?
Well we did Hot Right Now for her last album and there are some ideas bouncing back and forth but can’t really comment on this yet again. I’m very sorry guys.
I’m really looking forward to hearing it when it comes out! I’m sure it’ll be totally different than your past productions, which is a good thing! How important is it to be unique in this industry? It really seems like a lot of big tracks are starting to sound the same.
That is true, staying original and creating signature tracks is very hard and you see a wave of copycats trying to take a bite out of the success. For me it is most important to keep pushing the envelope and stay on top of things. I have managed to do this quite successfully and tend to keep doing so.
What do you think about ghost producers? It’s something most of thought just happened in pop music but it’s actually quite common in the EDM world as well.
Don’t get me started! I respect the fact that someone makes music for someone else but I really feel that the person who claims the track and bases their whole career on other people’s work is a fraud and makes the people that do their own thing look bad.
Yeah, totally. Do you think the public will ever know how many of their favorite tracks weren’t actually made by who they thought?
No people do not have a clue as many of them their interest does not reach further than listening to the track and that is fine of course but they would be very surprised I must imagine.
Who are some of your favorite producers at the moment? I know you are discovering a lot of fresh new talent on your label, Protocol Recordings.

What advice do you have for new DJs/producers?
WORK HARD EVERY DAY!
You’re on the road all the time, playing gigs all over the world, what are your survival tips? How do you stay healthy while being a flying Dutchman?
Try to get your 8 hours of sleep, loads of vitamin C and Airborn supplements for the people in the US they know what I am talking about Wait for a good meal, don’t drink or do drugs and exercise.
